Paradise FM 101.9 is a community radio service informing and entertaining the Ballina Shire with the best music of all time, underpinned by a commitment to supporting members of the community and local organisations as an unbiased and trusted source of knowledge.
History & Demographics
Paradise FM Community Radio Association Inc first broadcast in June 2001, and was granted its permanent licence in December 2001. It operates as a not-for-profit incorporated organisation, governed by a community based Committee of Management and managed daily by a wonderful group of staff and volunteers
As a community station, we have a licence to broadcast to a community of interest, that being the Ballina Shire.
Paradise FM has a music format targeting the 40+ demographic, concentrating on hits and memories from the 60s, 70s and 80s, and 90s, broadcasting 24 hours, 7 days a week. The station also streams live from our website, paradisefm.org.au, and features on the Community Radio Plus App.
Paradise FM recently participated in an on-line Station Community Engagement Survey commissioned by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia and conducted by McNair yellowSquares, with the following results:
- Male listeners 47%, Female listeners 52%. Other 1%
- Average age 59
- Time spent listening 23.9hrs per week, which is over 8 hours above the national average
- Listeners tune in to the station between 5am and 7pm in the following categories: breakfast (83%), morning (71%), afternoon (66%) afternoon drive (79%)
- 91% of those surveyed stated that “information about the local area and local issues” is fulfilling community needs ‘very well’
- 45% listen at home, 41% listen in the car, with greater than 80% listening via AM/FM signal
In 2002 and 2005, Paradise FM received the Community Services Award for Excellence in the Ballina Business Awards (Chamber of Commerce), and in 2008 and 2021, the Ballina Shire Council’s Australia Day Award for Community Service.
